For our house wine we looked for the best price/quality offering within what’s available from our suppliers. Portuguese reds are made from a variety of grapes, some of which are unique to Portugal. They pair well with a variety of dishes, including roasted meats, stews, and hearty pasta dishes. Their acidity and tannins can cut through rich, fatty foods, while its flavours can complement spicy or highly seasoned dishes.

Sobreiro Premium, 2021, Setúbal
From the Atlantic/Mediterranean microclimate south of Lisbon comes this blend of native grapes with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon. Nice notes of chocolate, liquorice, some nuts, dark berries and raisin. The palate has flavours of butter, black cherry, dark chocolate and clove. Tannins are balanced, alcohol is well integrated and acidity adds character to a medium finish.

Vila Real Reserva, 2021, Douro
A modern Douro red. Blend of native grapes, aged for 6 months in French oak barrels, with a predominance of very old vines planted in terraces. Wine with a generous body and an intense aroma of red and black berries, oak, tobacco, discreet vegetal notes and others. In the mouth spicy notes and liquorice highlight the maturation. It is easy and enveloping, with very soft noble tannins and a long and warm finish.

Elisa Lobo, one of the most successful female winemakers in Portugal, created this blend of local grapes. Ruby colour, the aroma is elegant, with black fruit and spices, some black pepper, floral notes and balsamic. With a good volume in the mouth, shows minerality, full of wild fruit and spice notes. Acidity in harmony with the fresh fruit, elegant finish with good persistence.

The estate was founded in the 18th century on the oldest demarcated wine region in Europe and successfully produce wine since then. Made from old vines over 40 years this red presents a clean, deep and beautiful garnet colour and intense aromas of plums and cherries combine in perfect harmony with nuances of vanilla, evidence of its aging in oak. On the palate, eruptions of fruit flavours allow its finish to reveal structure and elegance.

From a 250 years old estate in the Douro Valley comes this complex blend of native grapes. Aged in oak barrels It has intense notes of ripe dark fruits, strawberries and black beer. In the mouth the wine has a savoury edge, gains volume and the aromas of fruits fill our palate. A well-balanced wine with firm tannins and a long, fresh ending.

Cancellus Signature, 2019, Douro
The Vila Real winery has more than 100 years of tradition in the unique terroir of the Douro Valley. Using a blend of hand harvested indigenous grapes and traditional methods this wine reflects the big Douro character, intense ruby red with aromas of ripe red fruit, plum and black currant, vanilla and oak from ageing. The taste is fresh and smooth, with ripe tannins, balanced structure and body, a good persistence with a nice final spice sensation. As in all wines with a certain age aeration is recommended.
